The Distance Education Application for Undergraduate Admission is available online. Before beginning the application process, please take a few moments to review the information below.

Appalachian State University's undergraduate Distance Education programs admit transfer students only, and all prospective applicants are required to meet:

Materials Required to Complete the Application

1. Undergraduate applicants must submit the following as part of the application: a final, official high school transcript stating graduation, or GED, or Adult High School Diploma. All applicants must provide an official transcript from every post-secondary institution attended.
2. Non-continuous enrollment information is required if you have been out of school for more than 4 months any time since high school. You will be prompted to enter this information during the application process, so you should gather, in advance, any documents you need to refer to for dates such as start and graduation (exit) dates for all educational programs/degrees, etc
3. Court documentation and criminal background checks may be required (per UNC System Policies). Please complete the application far enough in advance of the entry semester start date to insure that if either or both are required—the process can be completed in time. All applicants whose applications are completed two weeks prior to the start of the intended term of enrollment will be required to submit to the Criminal Background Check at the applicant's expense.

Distance Education Application Checklist

Before you submit your application

 • Double check for the correct DEGREE PROGRAM/ENTRY SEMESTER/COHORT LOCATION or ONLINE DELIVERY.  If you are unsure about any option, visit the proposed undergraduate programs page or contact the appropriate Program Manager, identified at the bottom of each program description page. (Not all programs are offered online or at every location.)

Submit your application and all required items

• Include previous names and current contact information

 • Complete the Non-continuous Enrollment section according to the application instructions. Explain all "gaps" in your education since high school as required.

• When your application is submitted, you will receive a confirmation email with a user name and password so that you can check on the statusof your application -- check the status weekly.

 • Submit an official transcript for high school/GED/AHS (adult applicants are not exempt from this requirement).*

 • Submit official transcritps for every college, technical school, and nursing school attended, even if you were enrolled and withdrew without receiving any credit.*

 • Submit an official transcript for coursework in prorgress as the work is completed.*

Note: Campus Safety Questions

• If an application becomes complete within two weeks prior to the start of the term, the applicant will be required to submit to a criminal background check at his/her expense.  (Admissions determines when an application is complete).
• If an applicant answers "yes" to one or more of the campus safety questions, there is a possibility that a criminal background check will be required regardless of date the application becomes complete.
• If a criminal background check is required, the applicant will be notified by the university via the email address entered on the application.
